Eric Wellington. King, is a prophetic messenger, passionate leader, social activist, and educator engaged in preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, and committed to empowering and transforming the lives of the under-served and the disenfranchised.
Reverend King has been a minister for 31 years; serving in his twenty first year of pastoral ministry; that includes Ames UMC, New Life UMC, St. Matthews New Life UMC; Metropolitan UMC; and currently The Goshen United Methodist Church located in Gorgeous Gaithersburg MD, where the ministry theme is “Possibilities are Fertile at Goshen.”
Pastor King was called to preach the gospel at the Emmanuel C.C. Church during the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. Sidney Daniels. In 1994 he transitioned into the United Methodist Church serving as associate minster to his mentor Rev. Dr. Kwame Abayomi.
King attended public schools in Baltimore City, a graduate of, from Bowie State University in 1981 earning a B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education. He taught and coached for twenty years in Washington DC, Harford and Baltimore County; and has earned the Masters of Divinity degree from Howard University School of Divinity in 1994.
Pastor King serves as adjunct professor and co-chairperson for the Advisory Board for the School of Social Work at Morgan State University.
Through his committed activism Pastor King has formed alliances with local community leaders, Baltimore government officials, city school administrators and college instructors in order to fight illiteracy, domestic violence and poverty. During his pastorate he has embraced diverse partnerships to include the Belair-Edison community-including Brehms Lane Elementary School, the Belair-Edison Healthy Community Coalition, the Harlem Park Community Counsel; and The Belair-Edison Community Development Association. Several congregation-community enterprises were implemented under Pastor King’s leadership: The Family Asset Center, Umoja Computer Literacy and GED classes, After School Tutorial Program and “People with Perseverance” designed to assist persons make successful and productive return to community life after incarceration. More recently Pastor King is patiently involved in, mentoring partnerships with Montgomery County Schools. Pastor King is most grateful to God to be the parent of three adult sons Eric, Bryant and Aston and a devoted “Baba” to grandchildren Taylor and Xavier.
